Self Care -

When most of us think of our NHS, we tend to split our thoughts into two areas: Hospitals and General Practice.  We go to our GP and then we are referred to a hospital if the problem is complex.  

Well, there is a major part of the NHS which lies in-between and is becoming increasing prevalent in our care.  These are NHS Community Services.  They support us from birth through to death. This will be the focus of this week’s Self Care Blog. Learn how NHS Community Services are becoming even more vital to your own health.

This week, here at Self Care, we begin to untangle the roles and the responsibilities of the people who work within our wonderful NHS.  Over the past year we have all learnt so much about how important the NHS staff are.  They have put their lives on the line for us all.  It is the fortitude, passion and forward-thinking mind-set of NHS workers that has given us all hope during this dreadful pandemic.

Here at Self Care, we continue with our knowledge quest to increase our understanding of how the NHS works in order to make better judgements about our own health care moving forwards.  This week we are discussing the structure of the NHS, with an aim of understanding our new NHS, how the NHS Long Term Plan is changing how the NHS is organised for us, and running through the different stages of care in this new world.

The aim of our topic for today is to understand the money flow through our NHS, to gain an insight into why the care we receive is provided in the way we receive it.  We want to have a base knowledge of how our NHS works for us so that in future Self Care blogs we can discuss how we can navigate and benefit from it better.  We’ll also introduce you to the NHS Long Term Plan so you can start to see what the future NHS may look like.
